Posture and position

  • Set up your hands, wrists and screen so that speed is physically possible.

Sit with your feet flat and your back supported. Your forearms should be roughly level with the keyboard, not angled up towards it.

Float your wrists. Resting them on the desk while typing forces your fingers to stretch from a fixed anchor, which is where most long-term discomfort comes from.

Put the screen at eye level and about an arm's length away. You will be reading from it constantly and looking down at your hands is the habit we are here to remove.

Curve your fingers as though holding a small ball. Strike keys with the pads of your fingers, not the tips, and keep the movement small.

Settle in

Type this slowly. The point is not speed - it is noticing what your hands are doing.
