Endurance

5-minute endurance

Most typing tests last a minute. Most real work lasts an hour. This measures the part a one-minute test cannot see: whether your speed and accuracy survive the distance.

What gets measured
  • Average speed, accuracy and consistency across the full five minutes.
  • Speed and accuracy for each minute separately, so a decline is visible.
  • Drop-off: how much of your first-minute speed is left by the final minute.

Most people lose 10 to 20 percent of their one-minute speed over five minutes, and it is usually posture rather than fingers.

Do not sprint

Pick a pace you believe you can hold for five minutes and hold it. Starting fast is the most common way to score badly here.

Reset your hands

Around the three-minute mark, deliberately return to the home row. Drift, not fatigue, is what usually costs the speed.

Keep going through errors

Fix the character and move on. Recovering smoothly is the skill this run is actually training.
