The home row and the two bumps
- Find the home position without looking, using the tactile ridges on F and J.
Run your index fingers along the middle row until you feel a small raised ridge on two keys. Those are F and J. Every keyboard in the world has them, and they exist so you never have to look down.
Left hand: little finger on A, then S, D, and index on F. Right hand: index on J, then K, L, and little finger on the semicolon.
Both thumbs rest lightly on the space bar. This is home position. Every reach starts here and every finger returns here.
From now on, the rule is simple: do not look at your hands. You will be slower for about a week and permanently faster afterwards.

Rest all eight fingers on the home row. Move only the index finger.
